A few nights in the mountains with an old friend and no agenda — the way it should be.
Every year, I look forward to a 2–3 night camping trip with my best friend from kindergarten. No kids, no work, no screens — just nature, a tent, and whatever fits in a cooler.
This year we camped near Tannersville, NY. Found a solid thrift store, grilled some hot dogs and beans (which, for some reason, always taste better out in the woods), and had a surprise visit from some black bears at camp.
It’s funny how one trip a year can make you feel like nothing’s changed. Like you haven’t lost that childhood imagination or the need to just be free for a minute.
We catch up, sit by the fire, drink some beers, and talk about what-ifs — just like we used to. It’s simple, and that’s the point.
