A quick detour through Glacier with my Dad. Just us, some bears, and the kind of quiet you remember.
Had a work trip out to Montana and asked my Dad — freshly retired — to meet me out there. We carved out a day to drive through Glacier National Park together.
As a kid, I traveled all over the country with him. Some of my best memories come from those long road trips. This time, it was different. Felt like I got to return the favor — bringing him along on something I was doing for work.
Neither of us had seen the West like this before. The Going-to-the-Sun Road, the Rockies, the sheer scale of it all — it was something else. We drank from a glacier waterfall like a couple of bears, then, fittingly, saw actual grizzlies at the end of the road. Apparently that’s rare. Felt lucky.
It’s a day I won’t forget. And now, as a dad myself, I keep thinking — maybe one day my son and I will end up on a road like that, just the two of us.
